Mini Water Supply Through Dual Pump.

Bore wells are main source for supply of drinking water in rural area. A large number of bore wells are taken in villages, tandas  and habitations.
The criteria for installation of power pumps and hand pumps are depends on the yield of bore well. Low or marginal yield bore wells are fitted with hand pumps and remaining high yielding bore wells are fitted with power pumps. Most of the rural areas are affected by load sheding and power cut up to 8 to 12 hrs per day. During the load sheding period power pumps are not functioning and villagers are facing drinking water problems.
Now the Dual pump system is developed and it is activated in some villages on experimental basis which is more useful in load sheding areas.
Basically this is a Mini Rural Water Supply Scheme based on a Bore well /Tube well. Water is pumped through a Bw. or Tw. with the help of a 1 phase submersible pump to a reservoir of 3000/5000 liters capacity. To overcome the load shedding problem an India Mark II Hand pump is also installed in the same Bw./Tw. Due to this Dual functioning it is decided to define it as a Dual pump system (DPS) henceforth.
Water supply is also not interrupted in case of any one of the pump gone under repair. All these features make this scheme a Sustainable Rural Water Supply Scheme.

Dual pumping system:
The moderated yielding bore well is fitted with hand pump as well as single phase power pump with average discharge. At the time of electric supply power pump may be operated and mini water supply also can be run. Rest of the time, in the absence of power supply hand pump is tobe operated and water supply can be made.
Three options for Dual pumping system as follow

  1. DPS- SP : On the existing submersible pump  a Hand pump can be installed with some modifications in the system.
  2. DPS-HP : Below the existing Hand pump  a low discharge submersible pump can be installed with some modifications in the system ,if the yield of the Bw/Tw is around 2820 liters per hour.
  3. DPS-NEW: If the new Bw / Tw is having a yield around 2820 liters per hour this DPS can be installed.
  4.

Above system of dual pump is constructed in village Malwati Taluka Latur and the villagers are enjoying the benefits of the same during load shading period successfully. The details of the schemes are as follows.
